The way people dress

I had some thought today about the way people dress and what it says about them. As I drove down the road I saw three women who where clearly domestic workers by there dress. On the opposite of the road where two teen age girls in jeans.

The way we dress tells people our age, occupation, social status, attitude to our bodies and society. It made me think about what does my dress say about me and what does dress tell me about the people around me. I always dress smartly when I go to work. This shows that I am serious about my work. I wear pants suits most often because they are practical and smart. The colours I wear to work are Conservative mostly but every now and again I wear something bright. I always dress modestly which shows respect for my body and those around me.

I then thought about modestly and the way my daughters dress. They are proud of their bodies and like the way they look. They have good self images and want to show thier bodies. It is hard for a teenager to dress modestly when they become aware of the changing bodies and are happy with them. Girls who are uncomfortable with their bodies are more likely to dress modestly. As they get older and their bodies are not as perfect as they once where women are more likely to dress more modestly. What these girls don't realise is the effect of their dress on men and how distracting the way they dress can be. Even if they realise this teenagers don't care to much about the difficulties they cause others. Teenagers are very self centered, there are exceptions to this.

I always admire young Muslim women in their flowing dresses and head scarfs. There is elegance and beauty in their modest dress. When a Muslim women covers her head and wears flowing robes it shows a respect for her religion, culture and family. The same hold true for any woman who dresses modestly - it shows respect for her body, culture and religion. It shows a concern for others. It shows maturity. She is no longer self absorbed in her own body and displaying it to the world. Women who dress immodestly are generally showing that they are self absorbed and concerned with their bodies.

The three domestic workers I saw earlier also told me many things by the way they dressed. They all wore dresses, which tell me that they respect there culture and accept it. In the African culture women are expected to wear a dress and alos at time to cover thier heads. They wore African print dresses which tells me that they embrace and are proud of there culture. Their attire also told me that they are not rich, they are working women and probably have family in rural areas. They are not well educated and probably did not finish school. They accept their social status and don't try and hide it, at least not here in the suburbs. When they go home on the weekend they will be dressed very differently in smart dresses and expensive shoes, but they will still be modest and are unlikely to wear pants.

My Blog

Over the past weeks as I have posted things on My blog I have come to know more about myself and who I am. I am exploring aspects of myself that I have not for a very long time. Even if no one looks at this blog this is a good enough reason for me to do this.

It is also a little like keeping a journal, but diffent because you are just a little more careful what you record because others might see what you have written.

Most of all I have enjoyed the time spent and rediscovered things about myself I have forgoten.

This has also made me aware of things I am sensitive about and did not know i was senstive about, like my testimony, the things I believe and feelings.
