I bought this painting in 1999 from and old black man who cmae in the office and told me he was an artist and was selling his paintings. I bought the painting because I was taken by the fact that this man said he was an artist. It did not matter if he was famous or not, if his work was good or not. If I liked it or not. this man was an artisit and so is every person who believes they are. This experince challenged me to think of my self as an artist to. Every time I look at this work of art it reminds of the words " I an and artist"
I am a photographer
The painting above has brought me to this idea. When I started working after I left school, the camera in the picture below is one of the things I bought. Ros arranged the sale for me and it cost me R 300.oo Which was a lot of money in those days. I had dreams of becoming very good and earnign money from my photos. I never got there.
I love to take photos with my camera. I love the sound of the shutter closing. I played with this camera many times and it travelled with me many places. I took photos with it when I was on mission. on hiking trips and when Samantha was a baby. Des captured a photos of me as I flashed my breasts at him one day when Samantha was a baby. I did not think the photo would come out because of the low light in the room, but it did. Des still has the photo hidden somwhere.
Samantha has a talent for photography and the desire to persue it as a career. I hope she is able to. She loves taking photos to, but no matter what path she decides to take she is a photograher. Shje has already earned money from some of her photos.
So my point is I love to take photos and some are good. So I am a photographer. Each Satureday that I go to the fleamarket and take photos of the children, babies and families - I am photographer.
Each time I take photos of family and friends - I am a photographer.
